Cotswold Canals in Pictures

Bourne Lock, Brimscombe

Bourne Lock, formerly called Harris’s Lock, is unique in being designed to accommodate both Severn trows and Thames barges. As a result it was the largest of the locks, being about 90 feet long and over 16 feet wide. It needed to allow the Thames barges access to Brimscombe Port and trows up to the main company boatyard which was just to the south-east.

Just beyond the head of Bourne Lock the canal is obstructed by an infilled railway bridge.
