Inglesham Lock was restored as a result of an Inland Waterways Association fundraising campaign - the Tom Rolt appeal - which was launched in 2010, following the CCTs acquisition of the site in 2009. The work was carried out by the Waterway Recovery Group (WRG) and KESCRG and work on the lock chamber was completed in 2019.
Although the lock is structurally complete, there is no intention (or need) to fit lock gates and paddles etc. at this time, as the pound above the lock is dry!
To save water when the lock is eventually commissioned, it is expected that pumps will be installed to empty the lock by moving the water back into the top pound. The top paddle holes have been modified to include pump discharge points for this purpose (see image below).
About 500m of canal heading east also belongs to the CCT and their volunteers have cleared most of the trees and vegetation from the canal bed. The towpath, on the roundhouse-side of the lock, has been reinstated and a new footpath created on the opposite bank.
