Before restoration, a significant part of the length between Ryeford Lock and the site of the newly constructed Oil Mills Bridge was infilled in the 1960's with domestic refuse.
Holly Tree House Spill Weir
This structure is in the grounds of Holly Tree House, about 100m or so west from Oil Mills Bridge. The weir no longer plays a significant role in the water-level management of this section of canal. This is now performed by the new Ebley confluence and overflow weirs.
Although adjacent to the towpath, the weir can no longer been seen as it's behind a high boundary wall.
The weir is Grade 2 listed.
